EPA Senses Good Things at TPL, Inc.April 2002The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded TPL, Inc. a grant for a program titled "Rapid Sensor System for Pathogens and Water." The sensor system will be based on new technology under development by TPL, Inc. and its research partner the University of New Mexico. TPL proposes an instrument system that could be used in the laboratory or in the field for analyzing water quality for a wide range of contaminates including microbial pathogens, Cryptosporidium, and viral pathogens. The technology will use protein molecules as probes for microbial and viral targets. The protein molecules used provide the system with an extremely high level of specificity and sensitivity for the pathogens of interest. There is a great need for a water monitoring technology capable of detecting a wide range of pathogens and their toxins. When successful TPL plans on commercializing this technology. TPL, Inc. Wins three SBIR/BMDO AwardsApril 2002Erik Luther, Ph.D., an Advanced Scientist in Electronic Materials won a BMDO Phase I Award for his work titled, "Novel-Doping Methods for Nano-Sized Barium Titanate". Charles Lakeman, Ph.D., an Advanced Scientist in Electronic Materials won two BMDO Phase I Awards, one for his work in Electronics and Superconductivity titled, "Integrated Passive Components via Soft Lithography" and the second titled, "Novel Micro-Supercapacitor". Douglas J. Taylor, Ph.D.,in the Specialty Materials Department for TPL, Inc., won a BMDO Phase I Award for his work titled, "Fully Integrated, Single Chip, Amplified Optical Splitter". TPL, Inc.
